Altamush Saeed

Firstly, I am extremely grateful to AFA for their generous scholarship to the amazing Animal Law Conference. Post ALC, I have been fortunately involved in several animal rights initiatives in the US and my home country Pakistan.

In October 2023, I founded Environmental and Animal Rights Consultants (EARC) LLP, Pakistan’s 1st dedicated animal and environmental law and policy firm. EARC has been actively involved in a public interest litigation against the local city zoo, where we received a partially favorable verdict, and is currently working on the development and implementation of a Humane Animal Birth Control policy to combat the heinous practice of dog culling. EARC is partnering with the World Moot on International Law and Animal Rights for the development of the World’s 1st Moot on Animal Law. EARC is also the legal partner of Comprehensive Disaster Response Services Benji Project for Animal Welfare and Rescue, Pakistan’s biggest Humane Animal Birth Control and Rescue operation. I also serve as a National Animal Welfare Ambassador for CDRS.

I have also inaugurated and operationalized Pakistan’s 1st Disaster Zone Farm Animal Shelter under Charity Doings Foundation (CDF) Pakistan/USA in December 2023, an organization, which I co-founded in 2016. CDF works on interspecies justice and aims to make the world a better place for all life, be it humans, animals, or the environment. In January we treated 450 farm animals at the shelter. The shelter embodies a justice-oriented approach to make farm animals more visible in Pakistan.

In January 2024, I was inducted as a board member at the Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN), an organization that advocates for sentient beings and operates in the Pacific Northwest. Tentatively, I am due to teach an Animal Law Advocacy course at the University of Central Punjab from March 2024, a first-of-its-kind course in the history of Pakistan. In February, I was invited by Forman Christian College University to deliver an animal and environmental right and interspecies justice TEDx talk. The TED talk received excellent feedback and is due to be published on the official TED YouTube page.

On the global level, on February 15, 2024, we officially launched the World Moot on International Law (WMILAR), the world’s 1st Global Animal Law Moot, where I serve as the Deputy Director of the entire competition and the North America Regional Director as well, alongside the brilliant Ankita Shanker, who serves as its Founder and Director. The WMILAR launched event featured legal animal rights luminaries Peter Singer, Gauri Maulekhi, and Paula Sparks. WMILAR aims to create a new generation of animal rights lawyers globally, bring together the currently fragmented development of Global Animal Law, and build a culture of moot court advocacy globally.

My life’s goal is to make the world a better place for all life, be it human, animal, or the environment and I am glad to have found support in countless amazing organizations such as Attorney for Animals. I promise to keep doing my very best.
