Lunch + Legislation with Ann Griffin, Michigan Humane’s Director of Advocacy

Today we welcomed Ann Griffin who has a wealth of knowledge about Michigan legislation. She gave us insight on working with a lobbyist, how animal welfare organizations can get involved with policy and legislation, and how individuals can do the same.

Ann and Mimzy

She discussed HBs 4203-4204, which are scheduled to be heard in the Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, June 14. These bills would revise the process when animals are seized in connection with criminal cases and would facilitate the rehabilitation of these animals, while preserving the defendant’s due process rights. Ann’s Action Item was to ask advocates to check whether their Michigan Senator sits on the Judiciary Committee. If so, please call and ask them to support these bills.
